Real quick builds for Rangers:

AoE: Recomended Build

STA: 40
DEX: XXX
Good for players that are new to the Ranger job. Able to do some solo AoE, just don't over do it. Keep count.

STA: 60
DEX: XXX
I hear is a good build; able to tank all that comes by. IMO..don't get to do good damage till later on (lvl80+)
Too much STA, takes a while for DEX to catch up for good amount of damage.

Full DEX Build: Not Recomended until lvl 75+
Awesome build. My build and Ariyas (if I remember right). This is where your block rate starts to catch up to the 40 STA build. i.e. At this lvl, Full DEX = 40 STA. You will be taking pretty much the same amount of damage as with 40 STA, but dealing more damage than the 40 STA build because you will have 25 more DEX.

1v1: Bah....

Full DEX.....might as well be a BJ.
Rangers are the worst 1v1 just like they are the best AoErs.

All of this is only base stats. Also, not taking in account any awakes, piercings or buffs.
